My Internship Experience as a Construction Consultant

I am now a forth year student of G30 in Kyushu University. Facing my career choice in the future, I chose to spend three weeks doing internship in one of Japanese famous construction consulting companies, CTI Engineering Co., Ltd. This company provides comprehensive construction consulting for works related to rivers, dams, roads, bridges, tunnels, cities, information, environment, disaster prevention, international projects, and social infrastructure; and I was allotted in urban planning department.

During this internship, I learned not only about my specialized knowledge, such as the current situation of Japanese infrastructures and corresponding solutions, also got to know the company culture in Japan, and realized the difference between school and society. I strongly felt the importance of communication and teamwork in this company. Construction consultant is a newly emerged occupation in order to complete the public works and plays an important role in most developed countries. As a construction consultant, they should store knowledge in many different fields, and discuss with ordering organizations to get a master plan. In the internship, I was asked to go on a business trip to Kumamoto several times for a project, and also attended the meeting between the CTI Engineering Company and MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism).

I spent my fulfilled three weeks here. I remembered one day when I went to work, I realized that all the urban plans I am doing now maybe come true in the future and benefit everyone, so I felt excited and decided to work as a construction consultant in the future. I like the atmosphere of Japanese consulting company, I like the people working there, and I like the working style as well.
